Helping You Achieve The Goals You Envision For Your Family

COVID-19 and How it Impacts Your Case

Bivek Brubaker & Prescott LLC | Mar 21, 2020 | Divorce, Firm News

Dear Clients and Friends,

This letter is written to inform you about how the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic impacts your case. The Supreme Court of Georgia has issued an Order Declaring Judicial Emergency. The Superior Courts (where all of your domestic relations cases are filed) have followed suit. The courthouses are therefore closed for any nonessential legal matters for a period of 30 days (concluding April 13, 2020).

Any scheduled court hearings will need to be reset, and we will work diligently with the courts to have your important matters rescheduled as soon as practicable. Any scheduled consults or meetings will be done virtually, rather than in person.

If you need help understanding what “nonessential” means, please contact us. We are still available to talk via phone, video conference, or e-mail. We will continue to advise you through your family law matters, and we will use all available means of alternative dispute resolution during the period of time that the courts are closed. Many mediators are offering to host virtual mediations, and Bivek Brubaker & Prescott will use all technology available to help with your family law conflicts.

We will continue working with opposing counsels on family law disputes, and we will be diligent in complying with deadlines for the filing of all pleadings. Civil pleadings can still be filed through the E-File system during the courthouse shutdown.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Damon Bivek, Melanie Brubaker, Suzanne Prescott, Jamieson Maddox, and Hannah Turner
