“I am passionate about advocating for my clients, and I bring 25 years of legal and business experience to make sure the people who come to our firm get the help they deserve.”

With over 25 years of experience as a family law attorney, she invokes a high level of confidence in her clients as she maintains their voices in divorce and family law proceedings and pursues the best interests of their children. Melanie’s clients are spread across the United States and the world, including Japan, Korea and Iraq.

Melanie is all about family and firmly advocates for her clients, as well as their families. “The term ‘family’ is not a one size fits all concept,” Melanie commented. “I have extensive experience working with blended families, deployed families, military families, same-sex families, single parents, parents seeking to legitimate, grandparents seeking visitation, and more.”

Military Divorces

Military families are an important part of the Marietta and Cobb County community, and Melanie understands the nuances and complexities of military divorce and family law matters. In fact, she leads this practice area at Bivek Brubaker & Prescott. “If you have a Military ID, your initial consultation is free,” Melanie added. “I will also reduce my fees for you. It’s my way of thanking you for your military service.”

Family law is actually a second career for Melanie. She worked in the corporate world and has a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. You’ll definitely appreciate Melanie’s corporate finance experience when calculating child support worksheets, creating monthly budgets, determining alimony, and dividing marital (or pre-marital) property, including investments, retirement funds, and business assets.

Melanie moved to Georgia in 1992 in order to be near her extended family. Melanie’s sister, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces and grandnieces all reside within metropolitan Atlanta. In her spare time, Melanie has researched her family tree all the way back to the 1500s. In fact, Melanie’s first American ancestors arrived at the port of Philadelphia in the early 1700s.

Melanie is also an avid bike rider. “If you mountain bike, let’s meet on the North Georgia mountain trails. Same offer goes if you desire a ‘tamer’ ride along the Silver Comet!”
